Adam Hughes/Indiana Jones

I finaly found this Amazing Heroes issue from 1991 with the Indiana Jones cover drawn by Adam Hughes:

There were some cool tidbits I found from reading the old "Indiana Jones" articles with interviews by the original creative teams:

- The first Indy comic was slated to be called "Indiana Jones & the Keys to Atlantis" (later turned into Fate of Atlantis)

- Marion Ravenwood was going to appear in "Keys of Atlantis" but was left out due to "too much plot" in the storyline

- Adam Hughes was slated to write and draw the following Indy series right after FOA (the follow-up series turned out to be "Thunder in the Orient" 2 years later)

Always fun to read these old articles on the old Dark horse comic run and see some of the things that were planned in the comic line!

Hopefully Dark Horse will re-up the Adam Hughes Indy comic series one day.

He's now one of todays most sought after comic artists!

Very nice, yodazone. Do you know if Hughes inked it, too? (I see another name, Karl, on the artwork.)

Here's another great AH art piece:

How about Megan Fox for "Indiana Jones 5" in this outfit?

She could play Sophia Hapgood!

Wow. Interesting! Violet Indy must be told, immediately...

Thanks, Avilos and yodazone, for the Karl Kesel info. The inking is superb. Nice lines happening in the full Indy illustration.
I checked my Dark Horse comics and have some of his work ("Fate of Atlantis", "Sargasso Pirates") but this is miles above.
He obviously had more time to do it!

While waiting for my pal Steve to get a sketch from Adam Hughes at the Baltimore Comic Con. Adam looked up and saw my press badge and recognized me from theraider.net and indycast and he started talking to me about Indy. The last film and plans for the fifth film. Great guy and artist. I was so beat and the long trip home to Connecticut made me forget this great cover art he did. Oh well I will make it up and interview him on an upcoming indycast.

Only stubbled across this thread now.... wasn't exactly told immediately either. A PM would have helped! :p But, then I suppose, you figured I'd find it anyway.... it just took me a couple of years!

But yes, Hughes has done some amazing work in the OP. I wish the artwork was that good in the comics!

I might listen to the interview, IF he gives any details about this potential Marion plot.

Violet, it's so good to see you back. You have been sorely missed!:D You're right, I should have PMed you but must have forgotten. Glad to know you eventually found it. Better late than never, eh?

Should you ever do, I've got some questions in my pocket.

About a month ago in the New Acquistions thread, a fellow Ravener posted about a recent purchase which came from a comic convention. I put together this A/B comparison for him to show what a shameless RIP-OFF & TRACING it was of an Adam Hughes illustration. The chump artist took off Hughes' signature and added his own. It's hard to believe someone would do this and claim it as their own original work.(n) (Then again, it's not that hard to believe.)

I've always thought this was a great piece by Mr Hughes, whether it was Indy or not. I love how the bottom of the picture remains unfinished and shows the rough pencil work ...

And this is a gorgeous celebration of the Indy movies. I'd love to see Adam do a full-size collectable Indy poster using the same basic idea ...

A couple years ago I found some additional artwork and a synopsis by Hughes re: the details of the story he was going to do for Dark Horse. It was pretty cool. If I can dig it up, I will post. Abner Ravenwood was involved and it had to do with the search for Shangri La, if memory serves. Hughes said he wanted to model Abner off of Wilford Brimley and provided a sketch to show what he would look like. It was actually pretty awesome.

The comic Adam Hughes was going to do was Indiana Jones: The Dance of Death.

1940
? Indy has a dance with death on an island in the Indian Ocean. During an observation of native worshippers, many of them become ill with an outbreak of the plague. The source of the plague is the Fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse, who is releasing his evils upon the world. Indy fights some zombies and barely escapes an earthquake which hits the area, killing the Horseman. [http://www.darkhorse.com/Help/Boards/viewtopic.php?t=10731&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=90]

According to Indy wiki the story's events were referenced in the The World of Indiana Jones. Is this true?

Hi, Walker. You're thinking of Hugh Fleming (not Adam Hughes).;)

@indytim: I LOVE the image of Indy in the snow. Never seen it before!(y)

There's also this thread: some Adam Hughes Indy samples

Ahhh...you're right. It's been a long time since I looked at that stuff. I forgot all about Hugh Fleming. If I recall, he's pretty good too.
