When I watch a Steven Seagal or a Jean-Claude van Damme action movie (which I don't often do!) I don't see much love for the project - they might as well be straight to DVD 'quick buck' movies: all action and no heart.
When I watch KOTCS, with all its faults, I still see the spriit of an Indiana Jones movie, albeit updated by the nature of the technical ability available to it. Without CGI Lucas wouldn't have attempted the ants or the monkeys, or maybe even the 'aliens'. The technical ability of the age can sometimes be a temptation too far (as I believe it was with the Star Wars prequels, Episodes I-III). The kids will demand a great spectacle in return for their cash. Yet, for me, Harrison himself helps to keep KOTCS on track. I don't see him as anything other than the older version of the character we first saw in Raiders.
Yes! Nailed it! That is exactly how I feel and its a shame that not all film series can be like this instead of a sequle because the first made money!
And Montana you got it again, Indy is all about escaping impossible odds and impossible situations in heroic and impossible ways. Plus Indy had to witness the mushroom cloud it was an important symbol. Frankly I'm surprised it wasn't on any of the posters.
