I was in Egypt for a couple weeks last summer. Absolutely incredible place! All these pictures are bringing back quite fond memories haha. wickedwing, I instantly recognized most of the pictures you posted, especially the ones in Giza.

I started off in Cairo, went to Alexandria, then across the Sinai mountains where I stayed at the monestary at the base of Mount Sinai, before visiting Sharm el Shaik and finally going back to Cairo. Quite the trip! 1400 photos! Can't wait to go back.

Just got an e-mail from my friend about his Cairo wedding and it's June 6th! That's really soon so now I have some rescheduling to do. Was hoping for October because I'm going to cook to death but it's still going to be an amazing adventure. Closest I've been is Sicily a few times but this'll be my 1st time in Africa, a place I am fasicnated with...

(June 6th is 55th anniversary of D-Day.)

Thumbs up 8 Days in Cairo

Well...I'm back from Cairo and still buzzing from the whole trip. The pryamids and my friend's wedding were at the end of the week so the preceding days were a series of events leading up to the momentous occasions. What a blast! It was hotter than Hell, Obama was in town for his speech, I went inside Khefren's pyramid, visited the tourist sites, learned some Arabic, smoked shishas, made some new friends and had an eye-opening/life-changing experience deep in the downtown streets & alleyways. Egypt is awesome...

Riding a camel at Giza was essentially crossing off an item on life's "to do" list. A dream come true, manifested in reality...Will write more but here's some photos of the adventure:

Looks like you had a lot of fun! What was your favorite part about being there and what was your favorite monument to see up close and personal?

Dig

Tough trip! I mean it had surely to be a fantastic experience, so thanks for sharing it with us.

PS: Archeologically speaking, this summer I'm planning to work at the archeological dig site in my city to give a hand. We're digging out the ancient Roman centertown and it's just great

You know Stoo, you look a lot older in those pictures than you do in your avatar...

I'm heading back to Egypt at the end of the week, and this time I will be packing my fedora.

Sorry it took me a while, but here's a few...

Here I am at Luxor temple.

And here's my encounter with a friendly local scorpion that decided my shirtpocket was a good place to hide...

Well spotted!

But it's actually my own journal, the one I am writing in in the top picture. I did however buy it because it reminded me of Indy's journal.

As I am a teacher, I took notes during the whole trip, so I can tell my students the interesting bits as well.

Wich is also why I have a bright yellow pen. It was a gift from Mustafa, one of my students last year.

You're a teacher? Looks like you're only a part-time teacher.

I actually do only teach part-time...

Can't believe I missed the opportunity to point that out...

It might be better to keep quiet about the grave robbing, though!

Do you always travel in character? It's almost as brave as Stoo wearing the pith helmet in public (or at least in the desert).

You look like you were signing autographs, rather than making notes for your students.

Now Montana, what did we discuss about that...

I travel in character as much as I can get away with. Or at least as much as my wife let's me...

And Egypt is just a perfect country for safari shirts and only an idiot doesn't wear a hat there.

So I might as well bring the ones I have, right?

I was actually complemented on my hat by an Egyptian archeologist while I was inside Tutanchamun's tomb.

Joose, what Indy shirt do you have? I notice it has darker buttons like TOD, all the shirts I've seen have lighter buttons. I got Todd's shirt and it's torn up beyond repair, simply from being used so much

Now that would be very brave! Dressing up as Uncle Adolf is a surefire way of shortening any holiday! You're right, though, that Egypt is a good place go public as Indy.

Stoo hasn't been here for a few days now, and I never took the opportunity to complement him on that classic pith helmet look. As for me, I'm far too shy to go anywhere in character.

It's a Noel Howard LC shirt.

The ones with the scorpion I'm actually not wearing an Indy shirt but a regular safari shirt. Between you and me, if you wear an Indy shirt in Egypt, it's going to end up full of sweat much like Harrison Ford's shirt usually was...

Very SA I suppose...

Hm, yeah I guess. But I'm not Eric Cartman or prince Harry...

Over there it's just practical clothing.

Stoo does look good!

But as far as being too shy? Come on, it's all in good fun, right?

Plus you get to post pictures of yourself on boards like these and feel like a movie star!

Even if you look as dumb as I do....

Noel Howard huh? I'm going to look into that, it looks better then Todd's. And I must agree, it is fun to go places dressed in character. I've let my hair grow and so I don'y quit look like a good Indy any more lol. And mt hair must be pretty thick because my hat is really tight now
But I've been to my school as indy and all around town, I don't recall one time being made fun of either. Surprisingly.

Sadly enough he has passed away, so they are going to be harder to find nowadays...

That's a disapointment, I really like the darker buttons, a quality I've been looking for in a good Indy shirt.

Lol nah I'm a skinny 17 yeard old kid with long hair, maybe I jsut have a big head Everyone at school knows me as Indiana Jones even though I havn't dressed as him this year.

Your dissapointed?

How do you think Noel Howard himself feels?

My students refer to ma as Indiana Jones as well at times, it's a good nickname to have, I think....

You go ahead and enjoy being 17. It's a great age to be at, and it's gone all too soon if you ask me...

Ah I guess I could have worded that better I imagine he doesn't feel that well.

Haha I don't think it's a bad nickname to have, I always get alittle excited when I hear some one shouting that name down the hallway refering to me

I do enjoy being 17, I'll tell you one thing, alot of my friends pick on me about it, but I'm going to be a kid as long as I can get away with it.
