Christopher Columbus's ship found??

Interesting, and a great find, whatever the identity of the ship.

But unless they find the title and registration in the glove compartment, I won't believe it's the Santa Maria.

Here's a CNN story, with some video of the wreck:

The "smoking gun" identifying it as Columbus's ship is a long cannon. IMO, dubious at the moment, but we shall see.

Also a few references to Indiana Jones in the story, and an extremely out of place clip of the boulder scene from Raiders.

The thing is, most of Santa Maria didn't even really sink. The ship reefed, and Columbus ordered it stripped of all usable timber to build the fort of La Navidad.

So if they've found what's left of the frame and some random debris, it's hardly the "Mount Everest" of shipwrecks as Mr. Clifford dresses it. Of course, if they can pinpoint the location of the first settlement on North American soil since the Viking era, they should be able gather more information about the circumstances it all happened in.
