INT. STONE CHAMBER
INDY brushes cobwebs out of his path as he steps
from the narrow tunnel into a large, torch-lit
stone chamber. At the far end of the chamber is a
heavy wooden door with iron fittings, barred with
a solid beam. Standing a few feet in front of the
door, facing away from it, is ASH. ASH is leaning
forward, covered by sweat and dust, and breathing
heavily.
INDY (tentative)
Um, hello there.
ASH (looking up)
Who the hell are you?
INDY
Look, I don't want trouble. I'm just
passing through. I think there's something
in there I need.
ASH
Like hell you are, buddy!
INDY (sighing)
I don't have time for this. I need to get
some book out of that room, or some crazy
guys back there are going to... hurt my
friends.
ASH
That's nice, grandpa, but there ain't no
one in this world or any other that's
going to open that door.
Behind ASH, a thud comes from the wooden door,
releasing a puff of dust into the air.
INDY (squinting)
I'm sorry you feel that way, but I really
need that book.
INDY steps forward, moving as if to pass ASH on
the left, surreptitiously moving his right hand
towards his belt.
ASH raises his left hand, which is clutching a
rifle.
ASH
My boom stick here says you're gonna stay
put, and no-one is touching that book!
INDY flicks his bullwhip forward, wrapping the
rifle and pulling it away. The rifle clatters to
the stone floor behind him as the two lock eyes.
ASH raises his right arm, which has a chainsaw
securely lashed to his stump.
ASH
As I was saying, my little saw here says
that no-one is touching that book!
ASH and INDY glare at each other, as ASH
nonchalantly pulls the cord and starts up his
chainsaw, which fills the chamber with its
mechanical roar.
Behind ASH, the wooden door surges against the
beam which bends, the sound covered up by the
noise of the chainsaw. ASH can't hear it, but INDY
notices and tips his head slightly, staring past
ASH.
The door surges again, and bursts open, debris
flying to the sides, and a bright light pours into
the room. We don't see what is coming through, but
INDY does. His jaw drops and his eyes go wide, and
with a choking sound he turns and runs back into
the tunnel.
ASH smirks, then notices the light and slowly
turns. A horde of DEADITES streams from the
doorway towards him.
ASH
Aw, hell.
ASH turns and runs for the tunnel.
ASH
Wait up, grandpa!
