Enjoy Downtown Redwood City on Courthouse Square by bringing the family out to a FREE movie! The Summer experience continues with a showing of 12 movies on Thursday evenings starting at sundown (approximately 8:45pm). Come early for the best seats (a limited number of chairs and tables are available).

Bring your blankets, pick up take-out food from the nearby wonderful restaurants and experience the outdoor "theater" with our 25 foot inflatable screen.

This experience is brought to you by the Redwood City Redevelopment Agency and the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department where building a great community together is our mission.

Along with Movies on the Square, other exciting FREE events include: Music on the Square on Fridays, Dancing on the Square on Tuesdays, and Jazz on Main on Mondays. Other ongoing events in the coming months include seven special outdoor exhibits featuring Art on the Square, Monday and Wednesday afternoon performances with Lunchtime on the Square, as well as weekend Target Family Days, and Cultural Events.

Grove City's free outdoor movie series has been expanded for 2010. Each Thursday, from June 17-August 5, a family-friendly movie will be shown at dusk on the sledding hill at Fryer Park, 3899 Orders Road. Be sure to bring a blanket or lawn chair. Attendees may bring snacks (no glass); ice cream and popcorn will be sold. For more information, call the Grove City Parks and Recreation office at 614-277-3050. We have organised a private cinema night at Shortwave cinema on Thursday 3rd June. The movie will start at 7.30pm with drinks before hand in the bar for those that can escape work earlier. The cinema is an independent one, with a lovely bar on Bermondsey Square for after-show drinks. The capacity is only 52 and we are expecting tickets to go really quickly!!


Tickets are £12, with 100% profits going to NSPCC and also includes 2 free raffle ticket. Please let me know asap if you?d like a ticket, and please feel free to spread the word

Indiana Jones film contest

Entries due this month

?The deadline for the Indy contest is June 25,? said Johnson. ?Films can't be longer than five minutes, need to have something to do with or be in the same vein as 'Raiders,' and they must be something that can be screened at a family event. All films must be turned in on a DVD. The top three films will be chosen by a panel of judges and screened prior to 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' on July 9.

The contest is part of the film society's July 9 screening of ?Raiders of the Lost Ark? at Comanche Trail Amphitheater, part of an ongoing Steven Spielberg retrospective.


?There is a committee being formed for the set design we are trying to put together at the amphitheater for our 'Raiders of the Lost Ark 'screening. The goal is to turn the Raiders event into a full blown Indiana Jones experience. We want people to walk into the amphitheater and feel like they are on the set of an Indy film.?
And while the idea of holding a film festival in Big Spring is just a dream for now, Johnson recently had the advantage to see a similar dream in action, as he and a friend attended and volunteered at the Marfa Film Festival.

The Chicago Park District shows Indiana Jones movies outdoors during the summer, last summer they showed Raiders of the Lost Ark and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I have not checked this year's schedule yet.
