No No No!!! :D

Put the decal on the side of the crate as one piece of paper....then cut horizontal lines where the gaps of the planks were to make the appearance of planks again.

Basically stick this to the side then push your knife through the gaps and cut along to show the gaps. Bit like wallpapering! ;)

It took me a while with your first crate to understand how you'd achieved the effect. At first I was puzzling how you'd put the eagle onto the sticks, then I realized it was down to colour matching the paper to the wood, to create the illusion.

It's great work Dr Bones.

Thanks for the clarification! It looks awesome. Where are the black brackets from?

Regarding size, it looks like (though hard to tell from your pics*) that you may have made it one stick too tall - that it could have been shorter and still fit the ark. Might have helped with your scale issues.

Not that I think they are really "issues" at all, the crate looks just super!

*(then again, it may just be the angle that makes it look that way.)

It's an illusion....it looks from that angle the ark is low but it sits near the top.

From the screencaps I have used the crate was 5 tall, 4 wide.

The middle 3 seem to be slightly wider than the top and bottom ones though to be absolute SA which is why the bottom of the decal is off.....plus the decal itself may not be to scale...

Here we go again!!! ;)

I am led to believe more than one crate was used and there various were differences...just like every other Indy prop!!! :)

I fully expect and hope to see someone do a much better version then mine on here. I am getting closer but still a bit off perfect SA yet!

ps..Black brackets are just card until I can source something sturdier.

I used strips cut from a soda can, and folded the edges so they weren't sharp and also to give it more thickness. Paint to the color of your choice.

Some other things you might like to try are washes with diluted paint to better blend the wood to the decal. I also found ordinary colored chalks were good both for the color and the dusty appearance.

As a final touch I added 'nails' with a pencil and even tried to match the knots and grain in the wood with pencil!

You are right about the multiple crates! Makes it almost impossible to get the 'perfectly accurate' crate. (But its' fun trying!)

Thanks...I will try those tips.

My first wooden crate did have the pencil nails, but as they can't be seen clearly on screen I decided not to this time.

Your awesome work inspired me to build the crates in the first place.

Therefore I blame...ahem... thank you! :hat:

Glad to be of service Dr Bones :D

Good point about the nails! Seems to depend on what crate version is your 'model'. I notice my graphic lines up a little differently with the plank cracks too. I scanned it from the "Best of the Lucasfilm Archives" book.

(and just why do I care so much about a simple wooden crate? Oh sorry forgot where I was for a moment!! )

Thinking these goggles from the upcoming Vintage Collection AT-AT commander would work well with Col Vogel:

Your work continues to wow me nick. So when should I be expeting to see the entire chase lined up. a great way to take pics would be to take a picture of each camera shot, angle, scene by scene. now that would be huge ;)

Brilliant work, Nick! That Signature Mercedes is on my 'will be mine one day' list! :D

Lao's right, we need to see your models forming the chase scene. That would make a great shelf display.

A chase scene would be cool. (If I could do it in 2 days I could enter Hemble's dio contest!) The only problem I have with it is that it would be a project in its own right! You'd need a few different locales to make it look good... But I'm busy on my next project right now, one that's overdue. Plus the mm-mm-mm that I wanted to make and the conversion of ah-ah-ah to flobb-floo-boo that I thought would look good... And that's only the Indy items! Gotta do a few military subjects to quell the beastie... so don't anyone hold their breath now! It might take a looong while.

PS glad you like the other stuff!

Full description is: Signature Models - Mercedes Benz 770K Pullman Convertible (1938, 1:18, Black) 18135

One option is http://www.toywonders.com/ProductCart/pc/Signature-Models-Mercedes-Benz-770K-Pullman-Convertible-1938-1-18-Black-18135-58p4421.htm

I got mine from minineopet on eBay - $60 shipped.

But basically wherever you can get the best price. It is die cast, so shipping costs are inevitable I'm afraid. I made some mods so it looks like the car in Raiders. I took some photos while constructing so I'll post some pictures on my site within a few days - maybe tonight. I was a little disappointed at first because some of the paint was scraped off (on the doors mostly) but after taking the thing apart I was much more appreciative of the detail that was put into the thing - it is worth the $40-50 for sure plus with all the dust and dirt for this project who cares about paint, right?

Looking forward to seeing your construction in progress pics, Nick.

Dust and dirt improves models no end. Shiny cars are for showrooms and ceremonial duties. Dusty/dirty cars are for the real world!
