Go Canada!* (y)

*I made a bet with a friend that if Korea wins more gold medals than Canada, I cannot drink for all of next month. If Canada wins more gold than Korea, she cannot shop for a month.

I think somebody's going to be shopping in secret for a month, and hiding their purchases!

I'm heading over to Vancouver next Sunday. I figured we're paying for it as taxpayers, might as well take in a bunch of the free events. Gonna check out the O Zone in Richmond, a bunch of the free stuff in Vancouver, and the celebration site in Surrey. (y)

What's really bugging me over here (I'm in the Netherlands by the way. Go Sven Kramer!) is that it is impossible to see the women's ice hockey games on tv over here.

I love ice hockey and used to play it as a kid, before I had my accident, and I love watching it on tv. It hardly gets any airtime around these parts anyway, so I am usually restricted to watching short NHL bits on the internet.

Now with the Olympics at least they will be showing some ice hockey on tv. But for some reason they're only going to be showing the men's ice hockey. I want to see all of it. It's like people are saying that women's ice hockey isn't important... :(

I think that's a very backward attitude for this day and age.

Wich reminds me, according to Montana Smith we should all be watching the women's bobsleigh as well, but for different reasons... ;)

If you ever make your way to Canada, be sure to refer to the game as hockey. Just hockey. Every other game that is hockey-like has the appropriate placer in the front to differentiate it from hockey (ie, street hockey, roller hockey, field hockey, etc.). In the Great White North, birthplace of the game, it's just good ol' hockey.

And women's hockey is great entertainment. Those ladies can play better than most of the bottom division men.

You can catch a bunch on games on web streams.

Or head over here to Finland, where they'll show everything hockey, be it women, men or goats, guaranteed.

Wow...Canada wiped their ass with Norway!
Expected, really... there are six or seven teams that can give hard time to any other team, but the remaining few rarely become anything more than a hindrance.

Still of course, we've seen a fair share of upsets from those lesser countries as well over the course of history.

Did anybody catch Russia against Latvia? The way Ovechkin got taken down but just kept on skating, without even loosing the puck? :D

The man is a machine! (y)

I suspect Canada will find a worthy opponent in Russia...

Still hope the Canucks win it though...

Would liked to have seen shots on goal(the stat as well as actual shots on Canada's goal)...what a disgrace.

If anyone is in Vancouver...
The Edgewater Casino in the old Expo BC Pavilion at the former Plaza of Nations is hosting the Pacific Pin Club's International Pin Exchange. On top of the pin trading, here's a deal; $1 hotdogs and $2 beers! (y) Can't pass that up  I'll be there...

The first upset of the Ice Hockey olympic tournament was seen today when with glowing hearts and exemplary teamplay, the Canadian amateurs took the game to a 2-2 regulation tie against the Swiss millionaire pros and actually managed to inch out a 3-2 win in a shootout. Reports claim people dancing in the streets of Vancouver.

No, wait...

After the esteemed-but-outperformed-by-an-onion-ring-Prime Minister Stephen Harper practically begged the Canadians to give up their "reserved ways" (what?) and cheer loud and clear, I wouldn't be surprised if they did as a charade.
