Sean Connery says what he thinks of "Crystal Skull"

Sir Sean gives his view of the "Crystal Skull"

While keeping up with the Joneses' last summer meant Indy and his new found son, Mutt, many fans were looking for the other "Dad" - Sean Connery. MTV News caught up with the man who would be king and the first "00" agent, better known to Indyfans as Henry Jones, Sr. and asked if he had seen Indy's last adventure and what he thought of it.

Connery stated he had seen the film and that is was "rather good and rather long".

Now if only Lucas and crew can come up with a script for Indy 5 that let's Henry Sr. come back from the dead, perhaps as a side effect from encountering the "healing powers" of the Grail, the next film would be "rather great"!

You can see and hear Mr. Connery with MTV News at this link:

Ah, at last! Good find my man!

what can I say... even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then.. and its about time there was something out there that feels like "indiana jones" related news!

As I saw all the "Star Trek" T-Shirt and light up communicators on cereal boxes today at the grocery store.. I remember that it was a whole year ago that the buzz on Crystal Skull was starting... if there was any justice the powers that be would be beginning pre-production on Indy 5... but that ain't happening!

It's interesting he would say it was long considering it's a few minutes shorter than Last Crusade. And is it me or was he rather grim about commenting? Or is he just like that anyway?

Oh well.

Good to hear Sean thinks it was good.

Somehow I was expecting that answer from Sean.

Perhaps by "rather long" he meant the wait to get an Indy 4?

Probably not. But great news.

LOL

Those haters who said, "Sean rejected cause he thought the script was awful" BS have to eat their own words now. ;)

Seriously?!?

That's the most generic, diplomatic non-answer I could have possibly imagined.

He's certainly not going to be impolite and say he didn't like it.

Read between the lines. It's a generic dodge if ever there was one and even contains a subtle dig. Saying a movie is "long" is generally not considered a factual, dispassionate observation on running length. It means it was boring!

An actor like Connery is not going to come right out and dis the work done by his former colleagues.

Seems pretty clear he didn't like it and was just being classy.

When you consider how much input Connery wanted with the LC script, it should come as no surprise that he passed on such a reduced role. I doubt he was even sent a full copy of the script, since it would've been an unnecessary security risk.

There's not enough evidence to support either argument.

He probably watched it once, enjoyed it, and that was it. I have a feeling it was no different than his experience of ROTLA, TOD, or even LC. (Although one assumes he ended up seeing the latter more than once, if only because of the premieres, family, etc.)

But which is really the more likely scenario? The idea that he simply viewed it as old-fashioned entertainment and found it "rather good"? Or the idea that an 80-year-old man shares the same film values, expectations, and beliefs as disgruntled fanboys in their 20s and 30s? (Not referring to you personally, but in general.)

With all due respect... that's grasping at straws (although I agree he probably wouldn't say anything if he didn't like it). I'd be amazed if he's actually taken the trouble to see the movie, given the actual percentage of Indiana Jones in his life. But claiming that it's a diplomatic dig at KOTCS is just as insane as claiming he thinks it's brilliant.

 come on.... like the guy would tell a nobody interviewer what he really thinks of the movie if he didn't in fact like it... all of these speculation threads about whether or not Connery liked the script are just that... speculation... neither side can prove their "theory"... so why all the hot air ?

I agree that it is speculation.

I agree that he wouldn't say anything unkind about people who were his friends and colleagues, so we wouldn't really know anyway.

I do, however, purport that saying a movie was "rather long" is not a good sign. Calling a movie "long" in context like that is almost never a compliment.

I was thinking the same thing... it was a Viagra endorsement not some crappy movie.

No doubt... my comment was directed more towards the extreme camps that seem to "know" Connery just had to have loved this movie because he was in LC... I was reading through one of the other threads about Connery and KOTCS and the replies were just ridiculous... but anyhoo...
