I was thinking of that old YIAJC episode where older Indy (played by Ford) had a beard and I thought it would be cool as hell if Indy has a beard for the entirety of Indy V. Sure, he's older now and it'd be gray, but they could always color it if they needed to.

I would absolutely love to see it. What about you?

I'd prefer not to. But I can see the attraction in it. Though in the Fugitive he shaved it off in the hospital which was like after an half hour I think. The only reason Indy/Ford had that beard in that episode is because he couldn't shave it off because of the shooting of The Fugitive. If The Fugitive was over and than this episode was shot, he wouldn't have had a beard. Harrison looks great with a beard though and the look on his face when he had the shave it off in The Fugitive was great like: 'Damn, I'm going to miss it.'

I think up to a certain point maybe but I still want the majority of the movie without it if it's decided but I'd rather have no beard at all.

I voted yes.

Harry with a (short) beard somehow looks younger these days, and it would definitely channel Henry Senior.

I never thought about that. That's an especially good reason to do it. Especially if he gets it to look similar to how Sean Connery had it in LC.

I definitely agree with this. :whip:

That seems like an especially bad reason to do it. A) It's effectively an Indy-is-turning-into-his-father gag, which Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was littered with, and B) Connery's beard, like his overall tweediness, served to give him a touch of the Victorian. Indy's era isn't an era of beards; rather, the era that will be superseding him will be.

On his adventures, over the decades, Indy certainly isn't unfamiliar with a beard (regardless if we've seen it or not).

In his older age, why should he care much what contemporary society thinks of an unshaven face? Other things take priority.

Who cares about Henry Sr.? Men grow beards. Mine doesn't mean that I'm taking my dad's place (my Pa also having a full beard).

That being said, I get what it might project to an audience... At least those familiar with the series.

Maybe it's just the great Beaver God of Oregon speaking through me.

Oh, yeah, I voted 'yes' to the beard. If you wondered.

I don't think he will have a lot of beard in this one. Maybe more than he did in Skull, but not the full bearded Fugitive style.
Unless he's become an old Jedi master hiding in Ireland...

He looks kinda cool with it, but not very Indy. It could alienate the audience from the Indy they know and love, if the wrinkles don't already do that to some.

I'd wouldn't mind either way but I kinda like seeing a different look for Indy- more the shorter beard though than full on. To me, it looks younger on him and seems logical for a world weary adventurer to have one at some point.

I wouldn't mind it, as I think it looked cool in Mystery of the Blues, and Harrison Ford can definitely pull off a beard. BUT, I wouldn't want Indy to have it for the entire movie. Maybe he has one in the prologue adventure for whatever reason, and then when he gets back, he's clean shaven. Indy has looked too consistently smooth faced* to have a beard in an entire movie unfortunately.

*= yes, in all the movies he's had some level of stubble but you know what I mean.

Maybe it's 1968 and Indy is seeing all these kids with beards and is having a bit of a mid-life crisis ;)

But no, seriously, it wouldn't work unless it was in the "pre-adventure" sequence and was shaved off right after.
