The Grail Diary

I recently unearthed, from a box of my old books, the grail diary that came with the old last crusade graphic adventure. I read through some of it and found it very interesting, and almost like I was reading the real thing. I've seen some of the replicas on ebay, and the pictures are very similar. I was wondering, does anyone know if the content is taken from the actual prop, or if this was written strictly with the game in mind?

I know that there are some pages in the "game-diary" that were just invented and added for the game-version.

Does it have Hitler's signature in it? Sounds like a cool item.
What is the "last crusade graphic adventure"?

It?s a game Lucasarts made for the PC around the same time that the movie came out. I've heard that it isn?t a bad game but it can be hard to come across these days. I recommend the Indy and the Fate of Atlantis game, now that's a great game.

You should post a link for it, if you have one.
I remember seeing it somewhere on the Internet. Sorry I can't be of any help.

Are you considering on using it to find the lost grail? I can bring some beef jerky and camels if you let me tag along. ;)

... you don't NEED the grail diary. You have it in game. Of course, if you don't have it in game I must ask: did you ever SEE the movie?

I don't think that is a stupid question at all. I remember the book helping me get past the skull xylophones and the first trial. Go to http://www.indygear.com/props/downloads.shtml, they have parts of the text from the diary. Also, if you search the library at the beginning of the game, there are some hidden cheats and hints. Good luck and Enjoy.

There are two GDs in LC, the pixel one and the printed one. The pixel one is included in the game but you get the printed one only if you buy the game. The printed one contains clues that you need in choosing the correct grail at the end of the game.

It did? Huh. Come to think of it, I can't say I ever read it, and yet I was able to find the correct grail with little difficulty.

Yeah using the printed GD and the clues at the Venice catacombs and at Castle Brunwald's vault you could pick it correctly at the first try.

Here's a great FAQ about the diary written by Mark Falstein.
http://www.sonic.net/~dkjedi/GrailFAQ/
I have the b&w version in the "Lucasarts Classic Adventures" booklet. I believe it's not shortened from the 63 page glossy version. (If you search the classics on the Lucasarts site, all you'll find is Emperor's Tomb... dang I feel old.) It was written for copyright protection for when the games came on floppies (like working the stone disc combo to unlock the Atlantis game). Or, as the following Danish site explains, "the diary had the purpose of making live hard on pirate copies of the game."
The text is here,
http://www.indianajones.dk/Webside/Billeder/Indy-side/Grail/CG-Diary text.htm
and the letter inserts are here.

I'm assembling a word version for myself. The Raider really ought to have this official diary on hand!

It seems originally the inserts were integrated, then they put them together near the front. The Lucasarts Classic Adventures version deletes a few of the letters, which I found online. Scroll to the bottom of this page to see images of the real thing.

The complete, chronological version I assembled and proofread is here:

It's copyrighted Lucasfilm, so Henry's tryst with "Lady Eleanora Ferrers-Lansdowne" must be part of the official canon!
