Star Trek trailer with Cloverfield - not Indy.

They need to promote ST more. Trust me I'm at startrek.com all the time and the fanboys are pissed!
What the hell are they complaining about? Trek is set for 25 DECEMBER! That's almost a year from now and they're already getting a teaser! I'd say they're being pampered.

Here's a thought: given how the recent ST films were received, and that Abrams' film is a total reboot of the franchise, Paramount has a LOT more work to do to promote the new ST film ? unlike KOTCS, which has a built-in audience eagerly awaiting its release with a consisten lead actor in place.

In marketing terms, ST definitely needs a longer lead to build up momentum, mainly because for it to succeed it must pick up an entire new generation of fans 'from scratch'. I'm not surprised a first teaser is appearing this early, especially with CLOVERFIELD likely hitting ST's target demos. Plus, odds are this will only be a teaser for brand awareness. I'd guess a full-content trailer won't appear till May or summer.

Its a reboot in the same sense Casino Royale was rather than Batman Begins- new actors and new "universe" so to speak, but with the same iconic musical themes, logos etc.

It will probably debut at comicon.

The trailer's certainly one of the most desired things at the moment. Actually it's reaching such a mythical heights that I wonder if it should be called a grailer instead.

It's not the teaser they are pissed about. It's the movie itself. It's a recast of iconic charicters and a possible reboot of the whole ST universe.

It's very possible that the Trailer could premiere during the Superbowl.

Then, after that, we would see a trailer in theaters with some movie you don't even want to see.

So a two minute trailer was classified way back in mid-December. I'm gobsmacked this was floating around classification boards as far as Australia and never leaked. Note it was classified a month ago, so there was clearly a trailer floating around waiting for release, but Spielberg must have pulled it.

I think that some things might get mixed up here. Aaron suggested in his blog post from November last year that in november Spielberg personally decided against an already finished TEASER "at midnight hour" because he didn't like it.

So maybe the classification of 2 minutes (!) of footage isn't the one for the teaser we may never see but the trailer that took its place...and will be released on february 3rd or 15th.
