Hey- have not posted much on this forum in the past so not sure if you guys are looking for discussion/debate or just sort of a 'here's my thought, see ya!' one shot. So if you're not looking for a back and forth on this topic, my apologies
But a few things:
1- This idea that 'oooh, it's soooo hard to come up with an artifact to go after' I think is just BS. I hear Lucas say it all the time in the press and I'm left going: huh?!?! I mean, nothing has ever been as good as the Ark, altho the Grail came close. But come on, a Crystal Alien Skull? Some stones from India? These were master strokes? I have been very happy with most of the artifacts from the Indy games and comics. Heck, I was reading an Indy comic last nite in Omnibus 2 where Indy goes after the Golden Fleece. I was like: hey, that's a good one! So maybe if it really is that hard for Lucas to be the man coming up with the item, perhaps that is a sign that his better days as a creator are behind him?
2- As I said before- and my presence at such a die hard Indy forum should support- I am an Indy nut, thru and thru. No doubt. But I would much rather have had 5-7 new Indy adventures in the last 20 years versus simply one. And reality is, I thought Crystal Skull was crap. I LOVED it, cause it was Indy and saw it 5 times in the theater and it had a few great moments in it, for sure. But overall, I really thought it was bad. But you know, I was cool with that. It was Indy. And just like with Star Trek and Bond, some are gonna be better than others. Some will be near-classics (Goldeneye) and some will be dreck (License to Kill). But while it would be great if every swing at bat was a home run, to me the bigger point is to reunite with old 'friends' and get to visit the amazing world of Indy every 2-3 years. Not gonna happen with the perfectionist tendencies of Lucas (not that they yield perfection IMHO) and it's not gonna happen now that Ford is pushing 70.
3- Finally, sure, we all wish Harrison Ford would be Indy forever. But that will not happen, obviously. But man, I am so glad Bond continued beyond the expiration date of Connery. Brosnon was great and it seems like is Craig on the road the being great as well. Why in the world would we want our series to die? I mean, it'll never be Ford but that doesn't mean we can't have amazing new Indy adventures in store. Heck, when I saw Blood Diamond with Dicaprio I was like: dude, he would make a great new Indy!
But again, to each his own. I respect that. Just my 2 pennies.
Later ya'll!
Spidey
ps. if they let the series die out, I sure hope SOMEBODY comes up with a good rip off. It ain't the Mummy (walked out of part 3, just hated it). It ain't Tomb Raider (coulda been with some good directors but they both are terrible). I know making movies is not easy but dang, could SOMEBODY out there make a good action/adventure flick again?
