It's such a pity they couldn't come up with something after more than two years.

The situation reminds me of the ending of McLeans "American Pie":

I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn't play

Never mind the thread: Which Wine to whine about... The most popular whine at The Raven is this:

I'm getting tired of the same crap from Ford's mouth. If they're not going to do it, just say so. Sheesh!
Guys, try being content with what we've given and stop complaining about the lack of a 5th film on the horizon. Yes, we'd all like another Indy movie but if the absence of news bothers you so much than go lie down in a dark room or douse your head in a bucket of cold water.

Compared to the 1989-2008 gap, you folks are scratching your pants after only 2 years!

It's not the wait that bothers me. It's the same tired answers we get from Ford and the like. If we never see another film; I'm fine with that. Just tell us the truth, and stop beating around the bush.

I guess the reason some folks are scratching their pants is that they can't afford such a long wait as was the case from Crusade and Kingdom. Ford is not a spring chicken anymore, and neither are the beards.
But, there's nothing we can do about it. You're correct that we should be content with what we are given.

Here here! Its time for Lucas to tell us whether or not he is serious in making another Indy film. Its not fair to keep the fans in limbo for all this time.

I think the odds are pretty high that Lucas is not that interested anymore, judging by that "But I don't untagible anymore" quote from the Star Wars QA or whatever the exact words was.

I'm not sure what the 'truth' you seek would be. They are hardly going to state that they will never be involved in another Indy production... ever. Never say never right? Perhaps the simplest explanation is the one that's being presented i.e. "we won't say no more Indiana Jones because if the stars are aligned, if we find an angle we like and that amuses us to sign up, perhaps we may do another... or not".

The reality is, IMHO, Ford is too old anyway for any new Indy movie to truly measure up. At best, it would be a addendum to what's gone before. Seeing Ford and Craig together in the new 'Cowboy & Aliens' promotions demonstrates that Craig is probably much closer to the ideal image of Indiana Jones than Ford now is. Or is that too controversial? ;)

An interesting thought.

Not that I'm really looking for replacements for Ford, but the idea raises the prospect of an Indy reboot in the manner of Craig's Bond reboot. Same guy, but taken back to his source and given a more down-to-earth edge. (Like Nolan's Batman)

However, that was maybe a leap too far. It might suck out all the fun from Indy, make him too serious.

You're probably right. He'll be around 70 years old by the time they make this movie - if they make it at all. And that's probably too old. But then again he pulled it off at 65. But that was kinda pushing it.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Ford can pull it off at 70 though. The guy is so ingrained in that character that people will pay to see him play Indy in a wheelchair.

Yeah... but as much as I love Ford as Indiana Jones (and as much as I'd take more Indy movies with Ford in), I can't help but feel it's all rather reminiscent of the latter Connery and Moore Bond movies. For example, 'Diamonds are Forever' and 'For Your Eyes Only' would have been so much more with the Daniel Craig Bond of Casino Royale in place (IMHO). In essence, the movies where the action hero/romantic lead is played by someone much older than they should be, can't help but lose some of the verisimilitude that's required for a sense of thrill/peril to remain intact.
