after you place the explosives on the pillar and cause it to fall over there are two crane hooks. i know i have to use the whip to swing across but how to you swing from one hook to the next?

Well, even though it's damn hard to buy that Indy actually would be faster than the gravity (something in which the game designers went a bit over their heads, IMO), you just need to make a regular whip swing, you know, crack the whip, swing as far as you can, release... and then simply crack the whip again in mid-air.

Yeah, what Finn said. It's a double whip swing. Just swing to the first hook, but don't let go! Just go into another whip swing immediately!
