Starting my Indy gear collection

I bought a web belt from Todd's, and now I'm looking for the fedora. I'm on a small budget so I can't afford a fur felt hat right now, where can I get a screen accurate wool felt one?

Hi Dexter. I see you're pretty new. My first bit of advice is to check out the 50+ fedora threads right here in the gear and props section. Also do some research over at Club Ob-Wan and Indygear.com.

You'll quickly see that everyone hates the Dorfman Pacific hats and can't say enough bad things about them. I'm a huge Indy fan, and a DP is the best I have in the hat category. I like it, even though I recognize it's not really screen accurate. I love my tailor made Wested jacket and my way-expensive Joe Strain 10' roo whip. I just refuse to spend $100+ on a hat that I'll really only wear as a costume. I wear the jacket all the time, and I enjoy cracking a good quality whip. The hat looks fine.

My suggestion, go with the Dorfman Pacific. Even if you upgrade to something better, the DP is so cheap it won't really matter. And you'll have a backup/beater hat.

As for the people who will scoff at the mention of Dorfman Pacific, they're only on this board. Friends, family, and strangers will just see an Indiana Jones hat. Also take a look at most people proudly posting pics of their precious screen accurate gear. Most of it looks like it just came out of the dryer, not out of the jungle. Get a nice jacket, decent whip, and 'close enough' gear for the rest and dirty it up just right. (Refer to the various 'distressing your gear' threads for that). You'll look more the part than if you had crisp SA gear.

Do you know where I can find the pants besides Wested?

I recommend the Dark Driftwood for these;
http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/63019?from=SR&feat=sr

They are great pants, for gear or otherwise. The natural fit versions have the slanted front pockets, so are the most accurate. If you are willing to get the straight on-seam pockets without the natural fit, just get the regular pleated variation.

As for the hat, there are no accurate wool fedoras, but if it's all you can afford, the crushable licensed version looks nicest. If you can handle the $100 area, Todd's or the Akubra Federation are good choices. You might get luck over at Club Obi Wan, in the classified section, if you're patient.

Sweet, thanks for the link. Yeah, I don't have a lot of money right now so I'll get what I can afford, when I can I'll buy a more accurate fedora for sure.
