Talking of soundtracks, I only noticed the "Illumination/Keeper of the Grail" theme featured when Mutt asks when the saucer has left "Where was the city of gold?" as Indy explains. I know the theme featured earlier, but forgot it did near the end, I quite enjoyed hearing it on the big screen after all the years it has been since it was last heard on the big screen in Crusade.
It seems strange seeing Marion to the theme. Also odd knowing the theme plays in Indy's house whilst theres a photo of Willie present, since they aren't associated with The Last Crusade.
The thing that upsets me about this new CD collection is that the KOTCS CD is exactly the same as the prior release and the bonus disc has no new tracks from KOTCS.
I already have the soundtrack so getting it twice sucks. There are a lot of music cues I wish would be released from Indy 4. The music from the warehouse (beginning with the gundown of the guards, Indy's intro and conversation outside and the gunplay inside) and the rocket sled fight, plus more than half of the music during the jungle chase.
The only one I really want is TOD because it had the least amount of music on the prior CD and this new one has the nightclub fight music and the music in the temple when Indy get the Sankara stones.
Talking of soundtracks I'd like to say, I like Sophia's theme in Fate of Atlantis, the music on "Indy/Sophia's Kiss" would have been great as a fully orchestrated section if they had made a movie.
Lol you saw my vids? The one with the funny faces is a friend of mine, whom I was filming. But I am that guy who plays that piano improv. Well anyway thanks for watching them, and thoughts are probably best left unsaid
I don't think there's any Doomtown music except for a 10 second cue of music when Indy looks up at the mushroom cloud.
If they could make tracks for everything from the Russians first shooting the guards until where "The Spell of the Skull picks Up" then the Area 51 escape, then after the rocket sled when Indy falls off of the sled and hides from the Russians(That music keeps playing over and over in my head).
I thought that was some of the best music in the film.

To be fair, the KOTCS OST was a 19 track album - So most of what was recorded (of any real quality) made it onto the original release. On the other hand, the OST's for ROTLA, TOD and TLC were a lot more light in covering off great sections of the score. So I'm grateful that they are now getting the release they deserve.
With what is now available from the KOTCS DVD, the only real thing that's missing, soundtrack wise, is the Russian intro piece (which is good granted). But I can live without that.

The number of tracks in irrelevant. All CD's have 72 minutes. It's what they choose to give you that matters. Track 1 is a waste since I already have the Raiders March on 3 other soundtracks. Tracks 9, 11 and 15 are very repetative too (they all have the skull theme which is presented as a standalone track) and half of the music on track 12 isn't even used in the film (since the cemetery scene was trimmed). The warehouse scenes (guards, rocket sled fight, doom town, etc.) and more jungle chase music would have been welcome!
The biggest problem with the TOD CD previously released is that it's barely got 45 minues of music so it's the one most deserving of a new release. The Raiders soundtrack had 90% of everything already as did TLC. They were only missing some of the mood music, which is what the KOTCS CD mostly is.

...from JWFan.com complete score analysis by John Takis, found here.
He was referring to the mushroom cloud music in his comment. So I was 15 seconds off. It's still very brief, but could be thrown onto another track at least. I hate being double dipped when you don't get new stuff.

Hmmm - Not sure. We all now have access to the extended 'Jungle Chase' and 'Warehouse Escape' music. As much as it's good to hear, those additional KOTCS tracks add very little. Personally speaking, I'd much rather have the tracks that are on the existing KOTCS OST. If anything, as mentioned previously, I would have omitted more tracks and made the KOTCS OST more concise e.g. 12 tracks as opposed to 19.
Also, I'd say that 'Map/Out of Fuel', 'Approaching the Stones' 'The Boat Scene', 'On The Tank' etc. are more important unreleased tracks than those on KOTCS. So my point being, that I think they've applied their focus in the correct place i.e. TLC and TOD. That's what I'm basically buying the set for.

I agree with you on the prior films (the TOD stuff alone makes it worth getting for me), but I think you're missing my point with the set itself and KOTCS.
The new set is 5 discs. The 5th disc has even more unreleased music for the others, yet still has no extra KOTCS music. My complaint is not with the KOTCS music, but rather that this new set requires me to buy the same CD again to get the other music, yet even with an "extra" disc they give us nothing.
I disagree with you about the other music from KOTCS not being significant. From the Hangar 51 gate to the intro of Spalko and the warehouse shootout, the rocketsled fight and onto doomtown there is about 13 minutes of music. Also, we don't get Mutt's intro when Indy is on the train (about 2 minutes) and later the music from the chase begining with Indy and Mutt kicking Dovchenko and Indy's "They weren't you honey!" leading up to Indy jumping on Mac's jeep (about 5 minutes). That's about 20 minutes of varied themes and action. The soundtrack released gives us the Raiders March (again) and concert versions of Mutts theme, the skull theme, Spalko's theme all of which are in the end credits too. There's too much of the same and I think the new release should give people who bought KOTCS already at least something unreleased.
I wouldn't doubt that they'll put out a 2 disc version in the future. They did it with SW.
Indyd, though a) it took 20 years before we got a complete release of the original movie (for that matter, we're still missing some source cues from Star Wars - Episode VI: Return of the Jedi), and b) all the Star Wars scores were recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra, and therefore aren't subject to the re-use fees associated with American recordings, which can make it prohibitively expensive to release an orchestral film score because of the licensing costs (and do note that despite both being as massively popular as can be imagined and being recorded overseas, there still aren't full releases of all the Star Wars scores. This is going to take a while...).
Raiders of the Lost Ark was, like the SW series, performed by the LSO, but the other three Indy movie scores were all done by orchestras made up of AFM members, and have certain licensing costs associated that drive up the production costs of expanded editions of the albums.
That said, I'm with all those who'd like an expanded release of the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull soundtrack; I want all the remaining music from the second and third movies and all of the TV series, for that matter.
What I'm currently crossing my fingers for is an Academy promo come Oscar time. In years past, studios have sometimes sent out special CDs of film scores to voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, typically marking the CDs with "For Your Consideration" or some such thing, to campaign for potential Best Original Score winners. Sometimes these are just free copies of the commercial releases, but sometimes they've been expanded editions featuring some or even all of the music from a movie that might not have even had a commercial soundtrack release at all, or perhaps only an abbreviated one. Some of John Williams' own scores have been made legitimately available in complete form this way (A.I.: Artificial Intelligence, for one). Of course, these only filter their way into the marketplace when the people who receive them decide to dump them on eBay or in used record shops in LA, so they're not exactly common or cheap , but they do happen... sometimes.
Hey, it's a long shot, but I'll take what I can get...
