As do I, AJ. My familiarity with Elvis doesn't ruin it for me. The knowledge that I'll have to see stupid f'ing prarie dogs 2 more times after the first appearance does make me shudder a bit during the opening, though. Accursed rodents.

Maybe if they actually ran over the first one it wouldn't bug me so much....

In retrospect, I like the inclusion of Hound Dog. It established the period effectively. But I wish that when the Russians split away from the teens we could have been treated to some mysterious sounding tunes like in the LC opening.

I think there is no comparison... TOD, for all reasons stated, had the better opening.

However, I do like the 50's and anything Rockabilly so KOTCS had a lot of elements that appealed to me.

Perhaps if they used "Race with the Devil" by Gene Vincent to open the movie, maybe it wouldn't have felt so...I don't know "generic" 1950's?

Even so, I like Hound Dog and enjoy the opening...however, it's still no comparison to TOD.

Both opening songs are great and do an awsome job of getting you in the vibe for that particular decade. Both songs capture their respective time periods perfectly.

Actually, we all got it years ago. You, on the other hand, clearly learned about it in some sort of film class in the last couple of years because you manage to work it into a post every few months. As soon as I saw the thread title I knew you'd be along shortly with your condescending "people, you don't understand diagetic vs non-diagetic the way I do..." . You didn't disappoint.

Both songs are both, we've covered this ad nauseam since Kingdom was released and if I were a betting man, I'd guess every topic or off-topic tangent regarding diagetic music was started by you - just as this one has been. You learned a film term at school - we get it - really.

On topic - I prefer Hound Dog. It fits the scene well enough and is somewhat grounded vs the Busby Berkley sequence in Temple.
