Indy dio contest?

Hi All

Firstly admin staff hope this is the right place to put this? if not I do apologize. I just thought this would be a great way of getting peoples creativity flowing.

I have 3 x 3-3/4" Indy dio's that I want to give away but instead of selling them I was thinking of a comp just for this forum and there will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners (prizes below).

I just need to know if people are interested by 28th November 2009 so we can get this going.

The comp will run until 14th of February 2010 (no entries after this date) and the winners will be announced 21st Febuary 2010. The winners will be judged by people sending me an email hemble@optusnet.com.au as from the 15th February 2010 which dio people like.

THE RULES VERY SIMPLE

1: Must be 10 or more entries and you can submit more then 1 dio.

2: The dio can be any size you wish and be of any subject as long as it's Indy.

3: When the winners are announced I will get the winners address's and post the prizes off to them.

4: Add your name to the dio and the name of what the dio is called.

5: Voting will commence the 15th February 2010 by anybody and yes competitors can vote as well. When voting add the name of the dio and the number from 1-3, and I will add points to the places (ie 1=5pts, 2=3pts, 3=1pt)

PRIZES

1st Prize

2nd Prize

3rd Prize

Ron, you're very generous to offer you incredible dioramas a prizes - a true philanthropist!

With regards to Indy I'm still at the stage of using ready-made scenery, repainting, doing a few bits of slight customization.

Aside from that, I'm too devoid of inspiration at present to even contemplate entering an Indy diorama that might be considered worthy!

In the past I've spent a lot of time making small scale dioramas, but more often than not they were only to a level I would class as 'wargaming standard'. Nowhere near the class of your work, or of others that I've enjoyed seeing here.

For me, dioramas are the places where I can 'store' my miniatures on display, such as my 28mm Asterix world (for which I still have to build Getafix's house):

A home for Heroclix:

My 28mm 1930s Shanghai was pulp inspired, and was my first attempt at recreating the S.S. Venture from King Kong:

http://s566.photobucket.com/albums/s...kull%20Island/

A while ago I put together a 28mm crazy cross-over diorama that would enable me to combine Hellboy, Scooby-Doo, Wolfenstein and Doctor Doom's Latveria:

http://s566.photobucket.com/albums/s...in%20Latveria/

The beginnings of my attempt to paint all my 25mm West End Games Star Wars figures:

http://s566.photobucket.com/albums/s...%20WEG%2025mm/

As far as action figure dioramas go, it's been more a case of using ready-made pieces, apart from the Star Wars Cantina I built with light-up alcoves, and the Jabba's palace I began, but never finished:

As you can see I only get around to painting a tiny fraction of my miniatures.

Matt

Hemble,

What are the regulations regarding how much of the dio needs to be scratch build by the individual?

Heck, I could make some sweet dioramas just by buying a bunch of aquarium items.

Plenty of other great environments can be assembled from other found/bought items.

Even your cool "Egyptian Tomb" uses the pillar from the Disney 7" Indiana figure.

Care to set some ground rules?

Thank you, Ron. That's high praise, indeed, especially coming from one as accomplished as yourself.

Customizers block coupled with shortage of space. I'm drawn to using ready-made pieces, and temporary rather than permanent displays. Laziness plays a big part, too! I've got out of the habit of building things. I keep putting off building Getafix's house for the Asterix dio. I'm therefore devoid of an idea that I'd be able to pull off. There are some really dedicated and skillful model makers who have shown their work on The Raven. I'm not worthy.

Lance, you were writing the very thing that was crossing my mind as I was composing my reply to Ron. There's some really good ready-made scenery out there, and that really appeals to my unwillingness to put the effort into building something new. That's why I'm always on the lookout for useful playsets. With individual pieces I can create and recreate scenes without destroying the previous one.

In fact, Lance, you've inspired me to check the aquarium departments. The last time I was looking for that type of scenery, it was for 28mm. Now I'm more interested in the 1/18-ish scale..

Hi All

Montana Smith Appreciate the kind words mate and I totally understand.

Lance Quazar very good point mate, you could build a complete dio with already made items. As for rules regarding this I say go for broke either way with you want to use already made items do it, with you want to sracth build everything again go for it.

And if you want to do both like I do again go for it guys/gals I honestly just want to see some awesome creativity and some awesome dios. Hope this help everyone.
