I see that the non-story posts got chopped from the other thread. So, I thought I'd create another thread for discussion, questions, comments, ideas, post coordination, and criticism of the collaborative fan fiction thread.
I'll post the next part later. Are we free to discuss overall story arc here? Or does that go against the principles of collaberative writing?
I rarely have leisure time that I can spend on the non-relaxing activity of writing, unfortunately. But I have so much story in my head, none of which I've used thus far. We don't even have an artifact yet :P

What do you mean? If you mean setting down an absolute direction for the story... I would say we'll want to keep at least somewhat flexible. On the other hand, different people pulling the story in six different directions might be a bit much.
In my limited experience with collaborative writing, you write your piece and put in at least a hint of where the story is headed. Then you let the next person fill in the blank (and cross your fingers that they leave you with decent opening and direction of where things are going).
I edited my previous post as you added your comments.
I can't tell any of my ideas here without taking the fun out of it for others, since my story shouldn't be THE story. Granted, my story is the best story :P

Here's what I'll say:
It's the middle of world war II. Indy is not THE MAN, he is working directly for THE MAN. He probably doesn't fit in well. Also, he has been changed by the events of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. He is not the same Indy.
Inevitably, only the prologue will take place in World War II. After the war is over, he will be a different person once again.
Indy
Miguel "Mongrel" Juarez-a beast of a man with a strong back and questionable motives
Zac Hexton-a well-to-do OSS agent in over his head
James Forrestal-brother of a dead archeologist
Mexico-1942
Whilem Bohle-a Nazi and trainer of the Peruvian Army (meeting with)
Jeff Weir-a British archeologist
A Nazi Compound
and a rumor about Abner Ravenwood.
So have you guys checked the main page lately? www.theraider.net in regards to our Fan Fiction Writing Contest, which began yesterday?
Oh great. This is what I get for having a shortcut direct to the Raven.

Can this be defined more?
I think this applies only if you submit plagiarized stuff. The full sentence reads: "Plagiarized works will not be accepted and submitting writers will not be allowed to participate in future TheRaider.net contests.

Quick question. Speaking of plagiarism... what about ideas that you've seen here at the Raven (or at other Indy sites)? Just about all of these aren't developed enough to be used as is. Would it be plagiarism to draw on these?
Nothing, these days, is rully original. Ideas can be borrowed and tweaked as needed. (obviously this is an Indiana Jones fan-fiction contest) But if you take a scene from one of the books and use that and call it your own...well that is a whole other story.
If it isn't in writing, it never happened. How can you prove a 'discussion' unless with recordings and such. If it was emailed, text messaged, etc, then it may be considered writing. If it were brainstorming, and the concept or such came out, than you might want to mention, include, or acknowledge another's contribution as a courtesy. The writing is the finalization/realization of the concept. But its hard to have more than one person on a keyboard at a time
