Whip holder question

I just received a whip holder from Western Stage Props and I'm not sure what the leather "lace" on it is for. Does anyone know? And also, is the holder supposed to be two different colors? The snap part is dark brown but the belt loop is a light tan.

Apparently they are quick release straps.

I think that refers to the part that snaps. The leather "shoe lace" part of it isn't a quick release of any kind.

No, definately not quick-release on the straps, I tie them up into a neat, tight knot, using up all the leather.

They can be used to tie your whip tightly together if you will be travelling a long distance with the whip on, but for all practical purposes, I don't think they are a great use.
