Considering how [truly] obscene Westboro's abuse of the American 1st Amendment (it's true, it IS entirely their right) is and has been for a long time, I think everyone, even outside the U.S., can appreciate this.

Sad to hear, but I'm not surprised.
(Don't get me wrong; I despise the way the Westboro group misuses the Name of Christ and besmirches His Name by acting in a very unloving and unChristian manner.) But The Bible teaches me to not be overcome with evil but rather overcome evil with good. And Jesus also teaches me to love everyone, including my enemies, and to do good to those who hate and mistreat me. So I can't condone people doing such things in retaliation.
Nonetheless, I still love the people there at Westboro who are so gone from what Jesus taught- because Jesus loves them and commands me to do the same.
The same goes for people desecrating Westboro's property- I don't approve of what they're doing but I still love them because God loves them.

But what if God didn't love them? Would you still love them? Do you need God to direct and sanction your own compassion? I ask this in all seriousness, no denigration intended at all.
