Asterisks on Topps Raiders of the Lost Ark Cards

On the back of the cards there are either one or two asterisks in the bottom right corner. They seem to be consistently the same on each card. That is, if card 51 has one asterisk all cards numbered 51 have just one. And, if card 21 has two asterisks all cards numbered 21 have two asterisks. Is there any significance to the asterisks? Do they vary?

i noticed that also, always wondered what that meant. did it mean printing run? different company run,(the opocee company ( misspelled?) that was from canada?
