Teleporting vehicles?

Just watched KotCS for the 2nd time at the flicks. This may have been picked up elsewhere in another thread, but isn't the continuity a bit screwy during the truck chase? Marion's car was right behind Spalko's when Mutt boards and then completely disappears; the next moment, Indy's aquatic car is there to catch him when he falls. Indy's car is about 50 metres behind Spalko's and then we cut to the cliffside scene and he's now that far _ahead_ of her. What the..? Explanation anyone?

I can only assume there was a much longer jungle chase that had to be trimmed down. I also think we're supposed to realize that many times the cars get separated momentarily while they take slightly different paths.

Agreed. The scene was trimmed down to make it a bit snappier. I'd like to see the entire sequence to compare/contrast.
