The Dial of Digital: 4K vs 35mm

Dial of Destiny was a movie of firsts for the franchise. The first Indy movie where neither or Spielberg wasn't directing and Lucas wasn't directly involved with the story. It was also the first movie in the saga shot with digital cameras. I was very intrigued to see how well an old fashioned action movie like Indiana Jones would look in shot in 4K. For the most part the movie looked good and but there were a couple of scenes that looked a bit janky to me and I wasn't sure if it's a byproduct of the cameras being used. I believe they used a variety of different Arri Alexa cameras for the movie.

The color and lighting scheme was an interesting choice for Phedon Papamichael but I couldn't help notice it gave a very video-ey look in some scenes like the parade chase sequence.

But there are scenes where I think the high-definition definitely adds to the character detail when Indy steps into a room like this image. It's a little reminiscent of Raiders.

Anyway, I'm curious to hear people's thoughts of the look and lighting of DOD.
