Opening Shot/Reveal

Was wondering what the opening shot and reveal would be for Indy. My hope is that following an opening chase a goon is thrown from a car which crashes/catches on fire and reaches for a gun only for it to be whipped away and Indy's silhouette steps out from a thick cloud of smoke.

I would set it up with a professor finishing his retirement lecture. A class full of students, former students, colleagues that celebrate him. The point of view is behind his shoulders. We see him talking and receiving a round of applause. The music is sad and solemn. As he exits the huge classroom we follow him to his study. We see his silhouette from the frosted glass door. He takes his hat and we immediately recognize him for who he was and for what maybe is no more: adventure.

Only he's not Indy, because the camera pans to his door name holder and the name is the one of Dr. Herman Mueller, Medieval History Professor, who true fans will recognize as Indy's old boy scout friend.

The card fades into his military name patch. It's 1943 and he's in a small French castle yard. Everything is in very bad shape, a turret is partially collapsed. A truck is ready to leave.

He's nervous, the enemy is closing in.

"Where is he?! Where is he?!"

"There's no time, we have to leave NOW!", the driver shouts in a French accent.

He reluctantly jumps in, the truck skips through the courtyard wheels raising a cloud of dust, but they discover the nazis have control of the gate and shoot them ("putain! Shouts the driver). They dodge the fire but can only run and continue circling the castle, but they will soon be again at gunpoint, and the Nazis know that. They are ready to shoot again. Suddenly, bombs set off at the gate sending the nazis airborne (cue Wilhelm scream or is it too tacky?).

A familiar silhouette appears in the dust from the explosion, from the top of a boundary wall. Indy theme plays, he whips his way down hanging from what's left of that turret gun and jumps in as the truck approaches.

"WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG?", says Herman.

"A thank you is enough, Herman. LET'S GO!".

Herman looks at Indy in admiration, he has always been and hero to him, and always will be. He looks at Indy's hat and we understand how much of an insipiration Indy is for him, but really for every good person he crosses paths with.

Camera travels to reveal that the two were saving medieval artifacts from the castle collection. The truck runs fast, but the next challenge will reveal itself soon, for the prologue to start.

I’m gonna assume it’s the whole Nazi train sequence that’s been leaked from before. And it’ll probably start somehow like last crusade but Indy trying to take away something from the Nazis in disguise

I’d like to see the paramount mountain dissolve to a mountain near the Nazi castle. Two shadows creep across the facade, careful or the spotlights of the turrets, they step out of the shadows. One of the them asks the other “Now what?”....Indiana Jones, in his prime, gives him a look, “Good question” he says.

Title Card “Germany 1945”

They are escaping from the eerie fortress, a maximum security POW camp and headquarters. Indy and his buddy hijack motorcycles and race to the departing and mighty Nazi Gold Train, where Indy finds and must ultimately sacrifice billions in gold in order to survive the transport (unloading out the window and into the nearby sea in order to make room for himself to hide, etc.)

Paramount is not making or distributing the film.

Perhaps they can homage it some other way, I doubt they would dissolve the Magic Kingdom into a Nazi castle.
Nope, they won’t do that either. Disney logos/castles do not appear in front of Lucasfilm movies (example Star Wars). It will probably just have the Lucasfilm logo and then fade in, they could do something with Lucasfilm logo though.

That’s what I was thinking. Lucasfilm logo could literally just transfer to writing on sand that is quickly brushed away

Someone suggested the Lucasfilm logo could fade into a train bridge, that could be cool too.
That'd be fun. I expect they'll do something like that, but I think 99% of the audience won't really notice if they don't as it's not exactly what the Indy movies were remembered for. It's not like the Bond gunbarrel sequence or the Star Wars crawl or anything.

I'd actually quite like them not to use that same font again as per Raiders. ToD didn't and I liked how they're different. I actually really love how ToD uses the actual Indiana Jones logo in the opening credits- why not?

I think the TOD font was a one off when they were trying to be different. It would make it less special if they repeat it.

What about a font that has not been used before? I personally want the Raiders font for consistency.

Oh sure I'm not saying repeat the ToD look (although I think there's nothing wrong with using the film logo)- I just mean do a similar thing of giving it a unique look.

It needs to be subtle like KOTCS then it works better & is way more memorable I think Indy will appear very quickly though as Ford is the ONLY reason this movie is being made so they want their biggest asset in front of the camera ASAP!

I am more excited for what John Williams will do to underscore the drama & action. Its most likely his last big movie of this type as well so I expect him to go all out on a memorable score free of the silly editing restrictions the recent SW movies placed on his scoring method's! Now he has more time to work so he will delivery the most fantastic score he has created since KOTCS!
