Anything else to add on the Indy's Influences section?

Let's also not forget that Lucas' original idea for his hero's name was
intended to be Indiana Smith! Thanks for the info, History Addict!:hat:

Of course! I would also love to see those stories made into movies (finally! something that WOULDN'T be just another remake...). But with Harrison Ford being a bit up-there in years, I wonder who could play Smith? Maybe Gerard Butler? Or Ralph Fiennes would give it an interesting flavor!

References to IJ
South Park (TV show): Free Hat
In this episode - inspired by Kyle's comment on Ted Koppel's Nightline that changing E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial would be like changing Raiders of the Lost Ark - George Lucas and Steven Spielberg decide to alter the first Indiana Jones film. Soon after the episode aired, Lucas and Spielberg announced that contrary to rumors they would not be altering Raiders of the Lost Ark for DVD release. Parker and Stone jokingly suggested that the episode prevented any alterations from happening.
Magnum P.I. (TV show): Legend of the Lost Art
Higgins wants Magnum to find the "Lost Art of the Ancients", a priceless ancient scroll from a fallen civilization, that could spell disaster if it should ever fall into the wrong hands. But the search for the long-lost artifact is laced with abduction, danger and deceit, as an old flame of Magnum's, a foreign double agent, and a ruthless rival of Higgins' are all out to find the scroll as well, and the dangerous path to unearthing it could ultimately lead to death.

The Da Vinci Treasure (2006)
Firewalker (1986)
Relic Hunter (TV series 1990's)
Gee I'd almost forgotten "Bloodstone". I saw it many years ago but I can't remember it too well. I actually have the first two seasons of "Relic Hunter" on DVD. Looks like an obvious attempt to "cash in" on the success of "Indiana Jones" and "Tomb Raider" to me !:)

Addendum That is not to say that I don't LIKE "Relic Hunter". I do; particulalrly some of the items that Sidney Fox went after. "Casanova's book of love" and "Al Capone's pistol" for example !

Didn't post any better versions of the last five pics due to the poor quality of the original comic book paper, the distortion caused by the comic book folder and the fact that it's a pretty new story and I don't want any copyright problems.

Thanks for the rolling boulder panels, VP!(y) (I think you once said
that these were from 1954). Supposedly, there was a rolling boulder
in "The Perils of Pauline" but barely any of those prints survive.

Otto Rahn, I agree. "Bloodstone" is indeed a very, forgettable film.
The Bollywood version of Indy. However, it earns it's place alongside
the many other enjoyable, '80s rip-offs. Speaking of TV shows, in one
episode of the Canadian/Australian co-production of "The Lost World"
an invisible/disguised bridge like "Last Crusade" was featured.

SKAbatula, have you seen "The Diamond of Jeru" with Billy Zane?
It's a straight-to-DVD release based on a book by Louis L'Amour
with a decent story and good acting. You won't be disappointed!
Buy it now if you haven't already done so.;)

"The Diamnond Of Jeru" ? Now THAT rings a bell! Again, if I saw it it was a while ago and it must have made little impression.

Yep, I got that one. I've never read the novel, but the movie was excellent.

And I agree with the lameness of Bloodstone. The cover art is way more exciting than the actual movie.

Most of the early 80's Raiders rip-offs were so cheesy and cheap looking. I especially love the electronic music.

After Indy setting the bar with John Williams, there is no comparision with any other.
