Competition Dioramas

Ok I'll start with my first entry, the back streets if Cairo. This is a modular diorama that can be displayed as individual pieces or all together for a bigger scene. It is meant to depict the area from the first time we see the Monkey man. It is not a market area but a street with various residences along the way.

AWESOME. Are we allowed to comment here by the way? I wasn't sure if this thread should be kept clean just for pictures or not. Anyway, great dio, Luke! With a few more accessories, it could easily double for a marketplace as well, I'd think. Do you have any close-up shots of the black-robed figure with the bandoliers? (y) (y) (y)

I'm getting very excited here! That one's great, too!! :D

@ col.deitrich: Needs a shot from the "ground" level, looking up past Indy at the boulder! ;)

My god. this is insane.

Luke,

you're work continues to amaze me. Will you be completing an entire market?

that is absolutley fantastic.

Col Dietrich,

great work. But if my memory serves correct wasn't the boulder more of a grey instead of brown?

keep it up. I'm impressed;)

Are you talking about my entry? There is no dio of Ron's in this thread...

Nice work Col. but I would paint the rock grey and snap some new pics.

Lao Che thanks buddy glad you are enjoying the first entry. There are a few clues to what my other entry is in this scene but are a bit more abstract than a marketplace. That would be easily set up in this same area though. For clues look at some of the custom props and things sticking into the edges of the plaster on the other side. It is from the same movie but a different scene all together.

The basket chase? I noticed a large basket inside the door and the smaller baskets lying around:gun:

Ok chaps, here's my entry. If I can find my box of loose figures before Sunday, I'll snap another pic with them in the minecart. FYI - for those of you who expressed an interest in obtaining a cart from me, the one pictured is the first to be assembled from my new moulds.

Great to see work from Dietrich / Skywalker on here - excellent submissions fellas ! Wonder what everyone else is waiting for ?

Holy crap!!!!

With three amazing dios up, I know I've already lost. ;)

But I love seeing all the incredible work and creativity on display!

Wonderful job, Inky!!! The mine cart is spectacular!

I do hope to get my (crappy, humble) effort up in the next 48 hrs. Good luck to the rest of the participants!

***oh, as a side note - Hemble, any chance you can correct the title of the thread? That misplaced apostrophe is driving me nuts. hee hee. (y)

Okey dokey!!!

When I first set out to do this, I had an idea to use the dio setup to tell a story, and possibly even do some animation. But as I got to work taking pics yesterday in the storage building, I found that my portable power cells were somewhat limited in how much time (light) I was going to be allowed in one session. That said, a little drunken inspiration last night did find a few words connecting with the first batch of images. I dunno if I will even continue with the story, but I guess I could conceivably flesh it out after the contest has run its course. We'll see.

Apologies for the horribly cliched Nazispeak-- my guys obviously went to the Stan Lee/Steven Speilberg sieg heiler school! The last pic appears to be auto-shrinking, but it's still viewable.

I should point out that "cliff face", as I've come to call him, was not sculpted by me. But after the ordeal I went thru to secure ownership of him, I make no apologies for laying claim to him. I only wish I knew his origin and still hope to uncover his history someday!

More to come... heck, Indy hasn't even appeared yet! :whip:

Luke Sprywalker, I really like the modular nature of your street scene. What did you use to make the surface texture on the walls?

Inky, your mine car diorama looks excellent. Checking your picture against the the actual models from film (in The Star Wars Archives book), it's a very good match.
