death scenes

There are a couple I particularly enjoy:

HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER: "You arrogant fool! You've killed US!"
THE EXORCIST: "Take me! Come into me!"
THE OMEN: David Warner gets acquainted with a glass plate
APOCALYPSE NOW: I think Kurtz's final moments were already mentioned: "The horror. The horror"
MULHOLLAND DRIVE: Well, to be perfectly honest I'm still wondering if that WAS a death scene...

And of course, any method of dispensing of the bad guys in RAIDERS

Ghost - when the bad guy gets dragged off to hell... I first saw that when I was about 10 and it freaked me out like you would not believe.

Evil Dead 2!
"I'll swallow your soul, I'll swallow your soul, I'll-"
"Swallow this."
*BOOM*

Though I don't know if it counts as a death scene. She was already dead...

AMADEUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh my god. wow.

seriously like the first half of the film has you in hysterics, and over the middle he gets deeper and deeper into alcoholism and sickness...and then by the magic flute he looks awful! and then the requiem mass...

the requiem mass is easily one of the most heart wrenching scenes in film ever.

the dying genius reciting his unfinished and best piece to his most jealous admirer and person who is tortured by his greatness. and then when hes dumped in the paupers grave unceremoniously and you see the indignity of the lime being shoveled over the mass grave. the end of the most famous genius the world has ever known.

great story of good vs. evil.

and the last image in the film is of salieri in a mad house saying "mediocrities everywhere! i absolve you!" and then he puts his hands over his heart and mozarts obscene hyena laugh is heard...thats an amazing scene.

There's this great movie called The Untouchables, but it's not very popular. It came out in 1987. It's about a group of federal agents fighting mafia in 1930s Chicago, against Al Capone. The leader of the group is Elliot Ness.
Anyway, back on topic:

The best death scenes in that movie are:

There's a shootout at a train station, and ganster takes a man hostage, but is shot in the head. He slowly starts to slide down, with blood coming out of his mouth. After he moves down you can see his brains splattered against the wall. Very gory, but good.

Oh, that reminds me. How about the baseball game in the cornfields in "Casino"? Or the eye popping scene in the wearhouse in the same movie?

Blue Max

when bruno stachel (george peppard) is flying the new Fokker D VIII and is told by the general (james mason) to show his best knowing that the plane's wings were very weak.

those who have seen the movie know what im talking about

The Joker (Batman/'89): As Joker hangs on a helicopter ladder, Batman fires a grappling hook to secure the Joker to the building. Instead, though, the stature the Joker was grappled to breaks off and falls, and carries the Joker with him. It was interesting, with him imprinted in the ground and the "Hahahahaha" going on.

Tearful s? Oh, of course Anakin (as in RotJ)is extremely high on the list.

George C. Scott as John Rainbird in Firestarter. It still creeps me out to see a large man engulfed in flames and telekinetically slammed through a barn, all the while screaming, "I LOVE YOOOOOUUUUU!"

I hate it when people say did you see "Saving Private Ryan?" and then I answer and then they talk about how the first 30 minutes was so cool like blood and guts everywhere is SO cool. Those people sick me out. Does anybody have a problem about those people? The other sides of them are okay. But how can Watching people scream and being brutally killed entertainment?

I think there is a difference between something like the Evil Dead trilogy and historically accurate portrayals of death. Someone who cheers at SPR should be chastised for insensitivity, I agree. But there is that dark nature in us all that secretly enjoys the creative ways death is realized on fictional characters.

One is meant to be funny, no matter how disturbing that may be. The other is meant to show the travesty and tragedy of war. Unfortunately, some miss the point in favor of the spectacle.

I suppose it's something we need to accept; we can't change them, no matter how terrible somebody's opinion might be. Yes, opinions can be wrong, but it's hard to change them.

I'm not going to open this thread with a long list, like I usually do, but I think it's something we ought to discuss - great movie death scenes.
Well since this is in the Off Topic > Films sections my thoughts coming in are:

Hal in 2001
Smiler Grogan/Jimmy Durante in Mad World
Walken in The Deer Hunter
John Hurt in Alien

Honorable Mention to the Jokers pencil trick! Did NOT see that coming!:dead:
