How Many of You Think That Indiana Jones 4 is going to be disappointing?

Must have gotten lucky with Indy then and his couple of Oscars then.

There is nothing more ignorant than citing an Oscar as a proof of quality. I wish I could get the whole world to understand this because I hear it all the time and it's become so grating to have to express the same point EVERY TIME. The Academy is NOT a valid source.

Then what is? Your opinion?

What is valid source? A cinematic scholar for one. Keep in mind, the oscars are voted on by people IN Hollywood--they're people with something to gain. Crash for instance won because they gave away free DVDs of the movie... talk about influencing the vote. A film scholar is endlessly more credible than someone who has something to gain in the film.

That said... proof... I suppose really there isn't any. But there are certainly many sources far more reputable than those damned award shows.

So would film critics(like on RT) be considered credible?

"A film scholar is endlessly more credible"
Depending on where they got their education....

Good morning all. I'm new here so I thought i'd just jump on and get straight into it. I think that our expectations will be VERY high for another "Indiana Jones" film, and doubtles some of us will be dissapointed, but the movie will most probably be a huge box office hit. I think that, as "McGuffins" go, they have picked a good one in "The Crystal Skull". I'd actually like to see a portrayal of Mike Mitchell-Hedges and/or his daughter Sammy in the film. It's a seemingly trivial point but, as a nod to the people who have read about such things, I think that it would be a nice touch.:)

to I have wanted to se this movie since 1993. I have been waiting for years, and with the film wrapping production about now, I stillcan't believe it's coming out. I've been tuning in throughout all of the screenwriters taking a crack at the script, the Kevin Costner-as-brother concept days, the Sandra Bullock-as-damsel concept (when Speed came out in 1994). It will literally take more than pinching myself to wipe the smile off my face on May 22. Midnight, on May 22.

As for will I be disappointed? I know that a lot of people were disappointed by the Star Wars prequels. True, they weren't of the same calibre of the original movies, but they were decent. It really depends on how much baggage you bring to the movie. If you're expecting a brand new New Hope, one that can energize people today like it did in '77, then you were disappointed. If you just went to be entertained, then you probably enjoyed it. I'm not expecting a Raiders, and I never expect a film to top the first Indiana Jones film. For example, if you go and see "Casino Royale", you'll likely be entertained. But if you walk in, thinking, "There's no way this will be better than 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'", you won't be satisfied.

I really don't think I'll be disappointed. I get to see a new Indy film with an audience. I'm not hoping for it to be the best movie ever made, but nostalgia-wise, it's already an emotional experience. As long as it ranks up there with the sequels, I'm satisfied.

I don't think the Academy is a very credible source either (Crash winning best picture being the most recent, obvious flaw). But a solid majority of the time, the critics are in step with the Academy--at least when it comes to nominations. So it's hard to separate their credibility.

Anyone here know Metacritic? It's like Rotten Tomatoes, only a little more carefully done (in my opinion). All the major reviews of a film/book/album are gathered, each one assigned a number from 0 to 100, and a weighted average is created. Say what you will about this process, but it really does pick out the gems most of the time. Films that score very highly on Metacritic are, almost always IMO, very good films. (There are plenty that don't score particularly well that I end up liking well enough--but the inverse of that is rarely wrong)

Being a fan of that site, I really hope I get to see Indy 4 in bold (denoting a high score) with a big fat 89 next to it on Metacritic.

As much as you are not looking forward to this movie, you might have the best experience since your expectations will be so low.

Yeah I was so certain that PotC was going to suck that I had a ridiculously good time watching it and now it's one of my favorite series of movies.
