What does KotCS do better?

Very good post, mr. kotcs.

Hmmm. I can't think of anything it did best.

That said, it did one thing better than Last Crusade its ingenuity, those Spielberg-Lucas "Hey! Wouldn't it be really cool if...." ideas that bring out their schoolboy enthusiasm!

eg. the rocket sled fight in general, the jungle cutter, the ants encircling Dovchenko and Indy while they fight because of the Skull.

Really cool moments. I can really see Spielberg and Lucas getting really enthusiastic coming up with ideas like that.

I think it had the best opening credits sequence. Also, it had, by far the coolest artifact and the coolest myth behind the story (I'm a little biast, I've been obsessed with the crystal skulls for years).

That's awesome! I was so excited when I first heard that Indiana was going to be looking for a crystal skull. I was hoping they would bring Akakor (or in the film's case: Akator) along with the Ugha tribe into the story and I wasn't disappointed! All good reasons why this movie is awesome!

KOTCS did the self-aware-of-how-silly-it-is better! The movie's secret weapon!

"Hey, this is a corny-ass sci-fi adventure tale that is our love letter to science fiction pulp and the 1950's. If you don't like it, then that's your fault, not ours!"

And it had the most interesting MacGuffin (the skull reminds me a lot of the One Ring, with Ox being the Gollum character that becomes obsessed with the durned thing!). And it had the best opening teaser (I dare you to post that the Areas 51 sequence wasn't flat-out, ass-kickingly awesome! I DARE ya!). And it had the coolest critters (man-eating ants! Badass!). And it had the best stunt (Indy crawling out the back window of the Russians' sedan onto Mutt's bike).

Must I continue?

I kid I kid I kid

Alas, it's still probably true, however. Sigh...

I've been studying Maya and Aliens for a long time. Not as a job or anything, just for fun. That's why I think kotcs has, not only the best story in any Indy movie, but in ANY movie period.

While being escorted to a padded cell in a tightly fastened straitjacket, mr.kotcs had only the following words to impart to incredulous and horrified onlookers: "Popsicle breaststroked clavichord of turnipped calculus." He was never seen again.

Should I say I don't study this stuff, but "look into it". and I've been doing it for a while.

You should perhaps say, "I don't know anything about narrative structure and like to make wild hyperbolic assertions while gesticulating madly with my arms." :D

KotCS does nothing better than the originals IMO...that being said I enjoyed the film. I am not sure the fight scenes, sidekick or anything are better than the originals. I would say the same about the SW prequels which I also enjoyed, it is tough to top the originals.

If kotcs were released in 1990 I'm sure your views would be much different.
You'd probably think kotcs was a classic and therefore think It had some parts that were better. Now it's pretty difficult to not find 1 thing kotcs did better. Heck, I'll name a few more.
*Best looking McGuffin
*Best Indy hat
*Best punch( double punch)

I could name these all day. I'm not looking for deep provacitive answers hear.

It seems like your trying to make people find things that they don't think are there.

But, what if they don't think anything's better? Not even the little things. I'm not trying to be a smart-ass, but you keep saying if KotCS were released in 1990 our views would be different and that we'd consider it a classic. How do you know?

I was just responding to that single post. Now if people really don't see anything that is better, not even little things, than they don't. I don't see why, but I can't put things in their mind. All I'm saying with my posts are Really!!! nothing is better? This thread is supossed to be a friendly exchange of ideas. I'm just giving some examples of what I'm looking for. O.K.(y)

I thought KOTCS had the best way of getting Indy started on his adventure, with Mutt finding him as the train was about to pull away. Their escape from the diner was excellent, as was the motorcycle chase that ensued (the motorcycle chase doesn't top the TLC motorcycle chase, but I still really enjoyed it).

Perhaps people didn't like KOTCS as much because the artifact wasn't religious like ROTLA and TLC. Casual fans I've talked to were surprised Indy was going after an alien skull since he went after the Holy Grail and the Ark. They thought the movies were just about religious artifacts (they either haven't seen TOD in a while or discounted it because it was the black sheep of the original trilogy). I had always thought that the only supernatural artifacts in the Indy films were from religious sources since I had only seen the films and never read any of the novels.

That said, once I got my mind around seeing Indy going after a supernatural alien artifact, I enjoyed KOTCS immensely. I can definitely see parts of the film that can be improved, but it's still an enjoyable film for me.

Are you saying Hinduism isn't a religion?

...if there were only a facepalm emoticon. Simply the dumbest thing I'll likely read all day.

Congratulations. :)
