I'm sorry if this topic has already been discussed, but I searched the forums and found nothing. What is your favourite Indy movie? Mine is probably the rather underrated Temple Of Doom, followed by Last Crusade. Of course though, all 3 of them are absolute masterpieces!! What is your favourite?

Mine would have to be Raiders because it was the original after all, and in my opinion, had the best action sequences.

Sure, no problem. Just give me the number of your anonymous, off-shore Swiss bank account. ;)
Then again, I wouldn't trust the Swiss... if you die in a concentration camp (or some other horrible torture) where you [obviously] don't get a death certificate, those greedy *BEEP!*s will use that as an excuse not to let your children inherit your money. Better pick another bank, then.... ;)
How much are the royalties, anyway?
Hmm... since monetary payment is out of option, let's say we make a free advertisement deal.
You make a similar post but instead of RotLA or FoA You use FiK* and that should do it... ;)
Oh yeah, my favorite is RotLA, too. But LC is very close behind.

hmmm. lets see....
best indy girl: without dubt marion. shes got charm, looks and brains. the only indy girl i would (if i could) date.
best bad guys: Belloq and that nazi guy in raiders. (cant remember his name right now......)
best start: with out dubt raiders. its all time classic cinema all the way. the start of ToD wasnt a big dance act and a shoot out wich isnt even as good as the shoot out/fight in the raven in raiders. and i really dont fancy the young indy in last crusade.
best climax: i actaully think that must be last crusade. the three trails are great but raiders ending is a close nr 2.
best ending: i love the ending of raiders where they place the ark in the gigantic store hall.
best chase scene: Riders. the truck chasing scene is amazing. to me it easely beats the wagon chase in tod and the motorcycle chase in grail.
guess that makes riders my favourite.
generally i also think that raiders is best simply because they got it just perfect in every possebly way. the comical stuff and seriousness is in perfect ballance, while temple of doom got to dark and last crusade got all to cuddely with the whole father/son thing and turning marcus into a clown and taking away much of indys charm by making him into junior. also the grail seems to copying too much of raiders. (bring back the nazies, biblical relic, we have it/they took it/we took it back/they stole it again, back to the desert etc)
if you need more arguments for why i love riders the moust, i got them, but i guess this should do.. atleast for now ;)

It goes back and forth between LC & RotLA, right now LC is my fav. As for ToD, I don't think of it as a part of the Indiana Jones movies. Frankly, the movie sucked on several levels, but that is another topic for another day.

My favourite movie is The Fate of Atlantis...if they had done that!
That game has a full story that could be a great movie!
(Also, Infernal Machine and Emperor's Tomb would been cool movies but, anyways, we will never have them, and that's not cool!)
My REAL favourite is:
1-Last Crusade
2-Temple of Doom
3-Raiders
I like ToD and ROTLA both at the same level, but I put ToD at #2 because I love these 2 characters, Willie Scott and Short Round.
Also, I know a lot of people hates Willie.
I love her first because Kate Capshaw is soooo beautiful! and secondly because, like Indy says, "the biggest trouble with her is the noise". She screams and screams again and that made ToD a funny movie.
Last, of course Marion is more intelligient, but I love the fact that Willie is scared of everything and she screames for everything! Most important Willie's thoughts are like "Oh I broke my nail" or "My dress will be dirty again".
Cool

We can forgive your English, if you can forgive our Japanese. Kate, I have learned that "Mushi, Mushi" means "bug, bug" in Japanese. The correct pronunciation, (and spelling) is "Moshi, Moshi".
Ok back to the "Raiders" as best movie discussion.

Also, ToD is the only one that has a happy end.
In ROTLA Indy search and find the Lost Ark, but in the end those "top men" Nazis took it.
In LC Indy search and find the Holy Grail, but in the end, thanks to Elsa, the Grail Temple is destroyed and the Grail is lost (I prefer the videogame-end, when Indy can take the Grail with his whip!:))
In ToD had to find these stones and in the end he can take one stone back to the village, along with his heart and his life.
The point in Indy losing the Ark & the Grail was that those were artefacts too powerful for a normal man to handle. Yes, the quests were to regain major archaeological treasures, but after found out what their powers really were, they really just couldn't be left in Indy's hands.
Even Henry came to this realization in the end of LC. "Indiana... let it go."

What you said is ok, but the Ark goes to Nazi in the end, so that's not a good thing.
But, if the world is still (almost) entire, maybe Nazi lost the instruction sheet on how to use the Ark!:D:D:D:D:D
The Ark going to Nazis? Have you even seen the whole movie? Those were U.S. government officials.

I like Last Crusade a lot, because I'm a humorous type of person, but ToD and Raiders are tied, and are also VERY close behind... it didn't used to be that way though. I almost disliked ToD, but it seems the more I watch it, the more I like it. Raiders has the best costume though... that's the version I'm collecting. Favorite Indy movie: TEMPLE OF DOOM!!:)
I think I'm beginning to see why some people dislike this particular "Indy" film.
Here are the reasons that I think:
*Marcus Brody and Sallah (two awesome "Indy" characters) are not in it.
*You don't see Indy teaching at Barnett College (yet you see him in his professor garbs during the banquet scene).
*Indy retrieves only one Sankara stone, instead of the three that he had in his satchel before they fell in the croc-infested waters.
*The fact that ToD was the darkest of the three "Indy" films.
*Indy doesn't fight any Nazis.
*There were a few disgusting scenes (i.e. "The Banquet Scene").
*ToD is known as the prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark.
*Willie Scott is one of the loudest screamers on the face of the earth!:)
*You see Indy's evil side (which is very scary).
I think Temple of Doom is an excellent "Indy" film, especially with the great "Mine Cart Scene" (it had some awesome effects)! But I personally think that all three "Indy" films are the best.:D

While I agree with you Acme about Temple being a great film, I can see why people feel let down by it. Like it's not as sophisticated or quest driven in it's story like the other two. Part of the fun of Raiders and Crusade was going all over the world to fight Nazis but in Temple we're confined to one locale for 3/4 of the film's run time. Another thing that's missing is seeing Indy use his knowledge to decipher clues to find the artifact, all we get here is the villagers pointing the way to Pankot Palace and leaving Indy to infiltrate the place for the stones. Add to it the Willie Scott character being a let down after Marion. Still, Temple has it's good points, faults and all, like I pointed in my "Why Temple is awesome" thread.
Back to the question. My fave Indy film is Raiders, hands down.

Raiders of the Lost Ark.
All the way, the greatest all-around story, the greatest all-around adventure (a reason the other two continually refer to it?). Classic elements seen for the first time, and scenes that are immortalised forever.
Everyone I know says LC is their favourite, but they always remember scenes from Raiders. Either the boulder or the Swordsman.
How can you dismiss a film that just never takes itself to seriously for its own good? ;)
But I digress. I've said all these things a million times. I'll probably say them a million more. Despite my environment, populated by LC lovers (no offence at all meant to those of you on this board who are btw), I shall remain a Raiders fan through and through.

RotLA= best made of the whole series. It had a amazing plot , terrific action, and a really inovative movie.
ToD= most feel good movie. Just a great time to let yourself go and have loads of fun.
LC=Eh, it's just pretty cool,but nothing special.
KotCS= Most enjoyable movie. Fantastic chases, wonderful fights, and a great story.
I've tried, but I just can't pick a definite favorite. KotCS and RotLA are really tied for the top spot with ToD right behind and LC in last.

The order is
Raiders
Temple of Doom

Last Crusade is not an Indiana Jones movie. It is a parody of an Indiana Jones movie. Like Robin Hood: Men in Tights is a parody of Robin Hood movies. That it actually stars Harrison Ford just makes it that more effective.

^ That's a rather negative view of Last Crusade. I'm not it's biggest fan, but it has its merits.
I'd order it as:
Raiders of the Lost Ark (I'll have none of that "Indiana Jones and the..." rebranding malarky)
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crystal Skull

It's not that bad, but it does try way too hard to copy rotla. It's NOT an Indy movie in my book or at least not as "Indy" as the other 3, but it still pretty cool. It's just like I said"Nothing special"

How can it be anything else other than Raiders? A great vision fulfilled.

Last Crusade is not an Indiana Jones movie. It is a parody of an Indiana Jones movie. Like Robin Hood: Men in Tights is a parody of Robin Hood movies. That it actually stars Harrison Ford just makes it that more effective.
How do you not accept LC as an Indiana Jones film but do accept KOTCS?
Don't get me wrong, I love both, and you're entitled to your own opinion, but if you thought LC was goofy, well, KOTCS just makes it all goofier.
LC was the 1st Indy film I seen, and till this day, I believe it has the best mix of action and comedy and is one of the most enjoyable "family" adventure films one could ask for, followed closely by KOTCS. But thinking LC is a parody of IJ? It just doesn't have as dangerous of a tone as RotLA does. If it was a parody, Indy would be clumsy and falling out of nuclear fridges, swinging with monkeys, and taking absolutely no damage from enemies.
Oh...wait.:p

Oh...wait.:pIt's not as "Indy" as the others, just because I hated the Parts In berlin Or wherever they were. I might have sounded a little too harsh with my comment. There's no reason for you too bash KotCS though. I never should have said LC wasn't an Indy movie because it is. There's just a long part of it in Germany, which didn't feel like the right place for Indy. I meant no harm to LC fans.

Because Spielberg said so. Back in '89 he said, "We realize now after Temple of Doom that Raiders was a one-time sort of thing and that we shouldn't touch it again. But the fans want more. So we give them just what they want: more Raiders. Think about it. The Holy Grail! It's a joke, a send-up of the Ark. See, the fans are kids who loved Raiders. So we bring back the Nazis and a search for a bigger, badder lost mystical artificat. This time Indy rides a horse after a TANK! Indy and damsel have to escape a tomb filled with RATS! Instead of fighting around an airplane, this time Indy has fight on an AIRSHIP! You can picture kids sitting around coming up with this stuff themselves. 'wouldn't it be cool if ...' and 'yeah, but this time it's a tank!' So we just made the movie that the kids would make themselves if they could."

You have to be some kind of mind reader because this is eerily similar to my exact thoughts about LC. That's actually very scary.

Right on the money. It seems to me that with Temple they were trying to make a movie that was the equal of Raiders, but different. The response wasn't as enthusiastic as hoped for, so the third one lost that ambition, being essentially a safe, lighthearted retread of the first. That doesn't mean it isn't enjoyable, though.

I was being satirical with this. I made this up. I thought I had better clarify. I don't want to get labeled as a troll.

Well I actually like them in the order that they were made.
Raiders
Temple of Doom
Last Crusade
I've never seen KOTCS so I can't comment on that but I am pretty sure it will fall in 4th, though I can't say for sure.
I just watched Temple of Doom for the first time last night. It was very good. I almost liked it as much as Raiders. The Truck scene in Raiders was 10 times better then the mine cart chase. I have to say some of it really looked bad. The part when the plane crashes into the mountain looked horrible. Also the part when Mola Ram falls off the rope ladder looked fake. Not really a big deal though. The fight with Pat Roach was excellent, it was funny how he tried to save him from the rock-crushing wheel. The one thing I can't understand is why Indy didn't try to resist being captured. Couldn't he have struggled a bit while they locked him in that cage?

It was for Short Round's sake.

Wouldn't he have better luck rescuing Shorty outside the cage rather then trapped inside?

Poor Indy got himself caught when he threw that rock and hit the Thugee down in the mining pit. I guess his emotions got the best of him.

Yea I know that it just seems to me he could have resisted it.
mr.kotcs, Why do you like KOTCS better then the others? Just wondering.
Last Crusade is at the bottom of my list because for some reason it seems very different from TOD and ROTLA. It didn't give me the Indy feel I got with the two others.

I like kotcs so much because it had all the elements I could've asked for. It was like my Indy wish list come to life. I came out of the theatre overjoyed. Plus it was such a thrill to see Indy back on screen. I can't think of any scenes where I was bored, or disappointed. It was classic Indy and classic Spielberg.:D

3. Crystal Skull
4. Temple of Doom
Really, though, I love them all.
