See, the Crystal Skull theme, although subtle, worked well for me. I felt it was a nod to the science fiction soundtracks of the time period. I totally bought it and felt vindicated when I heard John Williams make that connection during the documentary.

I disagree about Crusade. It's really a rescue mission at the beginning. Indy's whole motivation is to rescue his missing father. Doom is not a rescue mission. He's after the stones and happens to find the children.

It took Kenner/Hasbro twelve years to really incorporate Expanded Univere figures into their Star Wars line, and Star Wars has a much larger and more popular (at least in terms of people with some familiary) EU than Indiana Jones. Although it might be neat, I have a hard time seeing it happen...

The mountain is clearly more three-dimensional in the new shot. It doesn't appear flat the way the matte painting did.
